As the holiday season approaches, the excitement of travel is on the rise! Whether you're visiting family back home or taking a spontaneous trip to the Bahamas, there's no denying the excitement of a vacation. Packing is often the most stressful part of the trip, especially when it comes to jewelry. Will my favorite pieces survive the journey? Will I remember all the items I want to wear? Is my jewelry going to be safe in the hotel room? By following these simple tricks, you'll feel confident traveling with your jewelry.

Choose the Right Jewelry

Consider your destination and what outfits you plan to wear to select the right jewelry for your trip. Always choose versatile pieces that you can easily mix and match. This strategy not only keeps my luggage light but ensures I have plenty of options for whatever spur of the moment plans might come about! Below I've listed a few of my favorite must-haves pieces.

  1. Classic diamond studs

  2. Delicate gold necklace

  3. Anklets

  4. Statement hoops or dangles

  5. Beaded bracelets

When it comes to packing my engagement ring, it depends solely on the destination. If I'm traveling somewhere I'll be swimming or doing a lot of outdoor activities, I only bring my dainty wedding band. One time I was swimming in the ocean and the current literally pulled my wedding band right off my finger...it was gone in an instant! Needless-to-say I haven't worn any solid gold jewelry in the ocean since then. There's really no point in packing your fine jewelry if it's going to sit in a hotel room all day. Especially when traveling out of the country, your best bet is leaving these cherished pieces at home for the week.

My number one tip is to avoid packing sentimental pieces of jewelry that are irreplaceable. The idea of wearing your favorite bling on vacation sounds fun, but it's so not worth the risk of losing forever! I've heard horror stories involving lost luggage, sketchy hotel rooms, and so many other bizarre ways people have lost their jewelry on vacation. With that being said, leave your precious heirlooms at home!

Use a Jewelry Organizer

Investing in a travel jewelry organizer is a must! These organizers keep everything neat and prevent tangling—a real lifesaver. The more compartments, the better.

I use one with compartments specifically designed for rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. This way, I can easily find what I need without searching through a chaotic pile. Depending on your style, you can find organizers in various sizes and designs that fit your aesthetic. Opting for one made with a soft inner material also provides extra protection for your jewelry.

Pack in Your Carry-On Luggage

Here’s an essential tip: always pack your jewelry in your carry-on bag. I cannot stress this enough! Checked luggage can get lost; you do not want to arrive at your destination only to find your favorite rings left behind.

By keeping your jewelry close, you reduce the risk of theft and ensure that you have access to your treasured pieces whenever you need them. I store my organizer in an easily reachable compartment of my suitcase, making it quick and easy to grab if I'm asked to check my bag at the gate. This little tip will ease your mind and prevent you from holding up the line.

Stay Aware of Security Regulations

Speaking of security, it’s crucial to stay informed about airport regulations concerning jewelry. Most airports allow rings and necklaces, but checking restrictions before your trip can save you a hassle.

If you are traveling internationally, you may need to declare jewelry above a certain value. For example, countries like Australia require travelers to declare items exceeding AUD 10,000. Keeping receipts handy or photographing high-value pieces can help ease the process, but I recommend leaving your higher end peices at home in these particular instances.

Enjoy the Trip with Confidence

Traveling with jewelry can be stress-free if you take the right precautions. By carefully selecting pieces, using an organizer, packing smart, and keeping in mind necessary regulations, you can enjoy your vacation knowing your favorite accessories are secure.

I hope these tips enhance your jewelry packing strategy, just as they have for me! Here’s to making unforgettable holiday memories, all while sparkling wherever you go. Safe travels!
