As a jewelry designer, my love for nature is the most powerful influence on my creations. I spend a lot of time exploring our planet, and each experience fills me with awe and serenity. This passion paired with nostalgic memories from my childhood fueled the inspiration for my first custom collection. Each piece in 'The Elements' is a celebration of the beauty and diversity of our remarkable planet and how it has impacted my life in the most positive way.

In this blog post, I want to take you on a journey through the ideas behind this collection, the unique gemstones I selected, and how they reflect the elements of nature that speak to my soul.

My Creative Process

'The Elements' is a vivid collection of colors and texture, where each piece features one-of-a-kind gemstones chosen to reflect the natural beauty of the world. From the rich blues of the ocean to the smoky greys of the night sky, I thoughtfully chose each gem for their color and cut; stones that have imperfections unique to them and cannot be replicated. This was especially important to me because I have always been fascinated by nature's diversity.

As I crafted each piece in this collection, I aimed to create a balance between the gemstones and the overall design. I experimented with different cuts and settings to highlight the unique characteristics of each stone, making sure that each one could speak for itself. My goal was to ensure that every piece tells a story and resonates with the one who wears it.

I chose Sapphire, Gray Spinel, Aquamarine, and Malaya Garnet to represent the four elements of nature, where each gemstone is tied to a core memory of mine. These vibrant gems not only showcase my artistic vision but also embody the essence of the elements they represent: Sapphire for the earth, Gray Spinel for the sky, Aquamarine for water, and Malaya Garnet for fire.

Sapphire for Earth

As a little girl I always loved picking wildflowers in the pasture for my grandma and was so mesmerized by all their unique colors, shapes, and textures. It's their imperfections that make them so beautiful to me -- mismatched petals, uneven bundles, and how they can grow so wild and free.

This led me to incorporate different cuts of Sapphire in striking shades of pink, blue, and jewel tones to showcase their extraordinary diversity. I intentionally chose sapphires with slight inclusions to represent how flowers, like people, are beautiful because of what makes them unique.

Known to be the stone of wisdom, sapphire provides you with inner peace and spiritual connection. It is also seen as a symbol of love when gifted to your partner, representing loyalty and faithfulness between the two of you.

Aquamarine for Water

When I see aquamarine, I envision the beauty and calmness of the underwater world that I get to experience when I go diving. Its soft blue tones remind me of the serene waves crashing on the shore as the salty wind blows through my hair. Growing up I was always at the beach, spending my first summer there before I could even walk. It quickly became my happy place and still is to this day.

Not only is aquamarine beautiful, but it is believed to bring peace and harmony to its wearer. Long seen as a symbol of protection and courage at sea, this unique gem offers mental clarity and emotional balance.

Gray Spinel for the Sky

Gray spinel symbolizes the sky, wind, and galaxy. Its subtle yet striking hue captures the feeling of a cloudy day or starry night. I love how it changes color based on the light; it can look different depending on its environment, just like our skies. This gemstone adds an air of mystery to The Elements.

Growing up in the country I always loved laying in the pasture to look at the sky, whether it was a warm sunny day filled with fluffy clouds or a beautiful starry night. One of my favorite things to do was make shapes out of clouds or watch for shooting stars. I have always been so fascinated by the galaxy and what all could be out there undiscovered.

Known for it's introspective properties, gray spinel signifies wisdom and calm against life's chaos, providing you with stability, resilience, and self control.

Garnet for Fire

I specifically chose Malaya Garnet for its rich hue that shifts beautifully from champagne to purple, depending on lighting, to symbolize a fire's unknown. This particular garnet also signifies healing from the past so you can feel empowered to live the life you deserve, which is a concept I hold very near to my heart.

Every New Years growing up my grandparents would host a celebration of life party in remembrance of the close family members we had lost. As a child I didn't see the significance of this as much as just enjoying the fun. I looked forward to it every year because it was a time where all our loved ones came together as we put on a firework show.

Malaya Garnet represents love, passion, and emotional connection. Similar to fire, these emotions are unpredictable, unexplainable, and impossible to contain, making this a gem that resonates with us all.

A Personal Connection to the Collection

Designing this collection has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I spent countless hours diving deep into researching gemstones, exploring their meanings, and visualizing how they could unite to form something truly special. I wanted each piece to be more than just jewelry; I hoped it would reflect the wearer's connection to the elements of nature and what inspires them.

I invite you to dive into 'The Elements' and discover the unique gemstones that embody the essence of nature. Whether you're drawn to the soothing tones of aquamarine, the enigmatic allure of gray spinel, the fiery spirit of Malaya garnet, or the classic elegance of sapphires, I trust you'll find a piece that resonates with your heart and connects you to the beauty of our world.
